Antipasto vs Charcuterie

Antipasto vs Charcuterie

Growing up, all of our special meals began with an antipasto platter. Today, charcuterie boards are extremely popular and serve as an appetizer as well, but what is the difference?

The antipasto originated in Italy and is served on a platter.  It features, cured meats, cheeses and vegetables. Our antipasto always, included ham, salami, dried sausages cheeses like sharp provolone and mozzarella, marinated artichoke hearts, olives, roasted peppers and eggplant caponata.

The charcuterie originated in France and is served on a board. It’s primary focus is cured meats. My daughter has become incredibly skillful and creative at whipping up charcuterie boards and in addition to the meats she likes to include cheeses and fruits with her boards.

I think either one, the antipasto platter or the charcuterie board is a great beginning to a memorable meal.

Enjoy,
Vivian
