Fried Calamari
This was one of our seven fish on Christmas Eve (see our blog for our complete Christmas Eve feast). Always hot, fresh, and delicious. Calamari is best eaten right away with a side of marinara sauce for dipping. See our marinara recipe
Ingredients
2 lbs cleaned calamari- rings and tentacles
1 cup milk
2 eggs
1 cup breadcrumbs
1 cup flour
¼ tsp salt
¼ tsp black pepper
1 cup extra virgin olive oil for frying
Directions
- Assemble different stations - Milk bowl, flour bowl, egg bowl- whisk the eggs and add the salt and pepper whisk more and lastly breadcrumb bowl
- Line up the 4 bowls and start dipping the calamari in the milk, then the flour then the egg and lastly coat in the breadcrumb.
- Place on a plate
- Continue the process till all the calamari are coated.
- In a large frying pan, add 1 cup of extra virgin olive oil. When oil is hot enough add the calamari but do not over crowd.
- Cook till golden brown. Remove from oil and place on a paper towel to drain.
Serve hot with a side of marinara sauce (check out our recipe).
