Cavatelli and Broccoli

This dish is quick and easy to make., It is great as a side served with roasted chicken or alone as the main dish. To add even more flavor, sauté the garlic with red onion and add frozen peas at the end. Great with our homemade cavatelli pasta- see recipe.

Cavatelli and Broccoli

Ingredients

1 lb cavatelli pasta
1 cup extra virgin olive
1 head broccoli- trimmed and chopped
5 large cloves of garlic – finely chopped
½ cup grated Pecorino Romano cheese
½ tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
¼ tsp red pepper flakes

Steps:

  1. Boil salted water for pasta
  2. Cover the bottom of the skillet with EVOO and keep the extra oil on reserve.
  3. Add the garlic, salt, black pepper and red pepper and sauté till garlic is golden.
  4. Add the broccoli and more EVOO
  5. Cover and cook till tender.
  6. Add more EVOO, mix well and add the cheese.
  7. Drizzle more EVOO, mix well, taste and adjust seasonings if needed.
  8. Cook pasta and drain
  9. Pour the broccoli mixture over the pasta. Mix well.
  10. Drizzle EVOO and mix again.
  11. Top with grated cheese.
